Kashmir Tour Packages in October 2026 – Autumn Season Guide | Kashmir Tickets

Why October is Kashmir's Most Underrated Month

The Kashmir Tickets team — based in Srinagar year-round — consistently recommends October to guests who ask when the valley is at its most beautiful. The answer surprises most people: it's not the tulip season in spring, and it's not the ski season in winter. It's October.

Here's why. The Chinar trees — Kashmir's iconic Platanus orientalis, which line Dal Lake's shores, the Mughal gardens, and the boulevard — turn vivid shades of gold, amber, and crimson in October. Dal Lake reflects these colours perfectly on its calm autumn surface. The Mughal gardens of Shalimar and Nishat are at their most photogenic. The sky is deep blue and clear after the summer haze.

Meanwhile, Gulmarg sits in golden meadows with early snowfall possible on the upper Apharwat slopes — spectacular to look at but not yet cold enough to deter non-skiers. Pahalgam's pine forests turn warm amber. Sonamarg earns its name — the Meadow of Gold — most literally in September and October.

Combine all this with lower prices than summer, near-empty hotels, and some of the best trekking conditions of the year, and you have the case for October as Kashmir's finest month. Our full seasonal guide has the complete breakdown.

How to Reach Kashmir in October

October travel to Kashmir is smooth — ideal weather and fully open roads.

✈️ By Flight

Srinagar International Airport operates year-round. Direct flights from Delhi (1.5 hrs), Mumbai (2.5 hrs), Bangalore, Hyderabad, Chennai, and Kolkata. October is post-peak so flights are easier to book but still fill up on weekends — book 3–4 weeks ahead.

Kashmir Tickets arranges airport cab pickups for all flight arrivals — call +91-9419001246.

🚂 By Train

Jammu Tawi Station (~300 km from Srinagar) is well-connected from Delhi (Rajdhani Express), Mumbai, and Chennai. From Jammu, it's a 7–8 hour scenic cab drive to Srinagar via the Banihal/Jawahar Tunnel.

October roads are excellent — no monsoon landslides, no winter snow closures. The cleanest time of year for the Jammu–Srinagar drive.

🚗 By Road

October is arguably the best month for the Jammu–Srinagar road drive. NH44 is clear, the weather is crisp, and the scenery through the Banihal range and Jhelum Valley is spectacular in autumn foliage.

See our Srinagar distances guide for all routes and drive times within Kashmir.

October Kashmir Travel Tips

1

Pack for variable temperatures

Days can be 18–20°C but evenings drop sharply to 5°C. Bring light layers for day, a warm jacket for evenings, and a windproof outer layer.

2

Book Gondola in advance

Even in October, the Gulmarg Gondola has queues on weekends and good weather days. Book ahead or go on a weekday morning.

3

Trek in early October only

The Tarsar Marsar and Great Lakes treks typically close by mid-October. Book immediately if trekking is a priority — don't delay.

4

Photography sunrise timing

For Chinar reflections on Dal Lake, aim to be on the water by 6:30 AM when the lake is still and the light is soft. Request an early Shikara from your houseboat.

5

October pricing advantage

Hotels and packages are 20–30% cheaper than July–August peak season. Houseboats on Dal Lake are easier to book and negotiate. Take advantage.

6

Check Sonamarg road status

Sonamarg road can close due to snowfall in late October. Call us at +91-9419001246 for real-time road conditions before travelling.
