Visiting Pangong Lake requires preparation and respect for the fragile environment. The journey from Leh takes you through some of Ladakh's most dramatic landscapes, including the Chang La pass, one of the world's highest motorable roads.
Spend 2-3 days in Leh (3,500m) before ascending to Pangong (4,350m) to prevent altitude sickness.
Temperatures range from 20°C (day) to -10°C (night). Bring thermal layers, windproof jacket, and gloves.
Indian nationals need Inner Line Permit (ILP), foreigners require Protected Area Permit (PAP). Process takes 1-2 days in Leh.
The 160km journey from Leh takes 5-6 hours. Leave early, hire a reliable 4WD, and carry extra fuel.
Choose between lakeside camps (May-Sept) or guesthouses in Spangmik village. Book in peak season (June-Sept).
